First Daily Marks 5th Anniversary, Publisher Criticizes Nigeria’s Enduring Challenges

At the ongoing 5th anniversary celebration of First Daily at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, on the 10th of November, 2025, publisher Daniel Iworiso Markson delivered a stark reminder of Nigeria’s persistent struggles.

Daniel reflected on decades of promises and reforms that have failed to produce meaningful change. He cited Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, who in 2021 called it “madness” to expect Nigeria to function smoothly, a statement Daniel said still resonates today.

The publisher also highlighted the enduring issue of power supply, recalling the 1986 campaign “Nepa: No More Blackout,” which promised Nigerians uninterrupted electricity, a pledge that remains largely unfulfilled more than three decades later.

“Despite policies, campaigns, and countless promises, the reality on the ground has not changed,” Daniel told guests, emphasizing the gap between government declarations and citizens’ lived experiences.

The remarks drew applause and reflection from attendees, underlining the challenges that continue to define daily life in Nigeria.
