The First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged the 300 beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative and Huawei “Women in Tech” programme to apply the knowledge gained to drive positive change in their local communities.
She spoke in Abuja at the closing ceremony of the digital skills programme for women entrepreneurs drawn from the six geopolitical zones. Her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday, the 7th of November, 2025.
The programme is a joint effort between the Renewed Hope Initiative and Huawei Nigeria. It was designed to give female entrepreneurs practical tech skills that can boost their businesses and open doors within the digital economy.
Part of the goal is to support more women to participate in tech-driven sectors and take leadership roles in digital growth, aligning with the administration’s economic inclusion plans.
While addressing the women, she stated, “Although the training has ended, technology keeps changing. Your biggest strength is your ability to keep learning, evolving, and adapting to new trends available for your growth in technology.
“Use your new skills to solve real problems in your various communities because true innovation is only valuable when it improves lives. Remember, you are part of a larger network support one another and grow together.
“I thank Huawei Technologies Company Limited for this collaboration with the RHI. Finally, I charge you all to mentor others in your various businesses. Be a guide for young girls and women who think technology is not for them.”
Mrs Tinubu restated that the initiative fits into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at broadening digital access and strengthening economic growth through tech-driven opportunities.
She also noted, “When women are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they become agents of change in their families, communities, and the nation at large. The Women in Tech training programme, conducted between April and October 2024, has successfully equipped 300 women with essential digital skills to help them thrive in today’s evolving, technology-driven world.”
According to her, the participants include both students preparing to enter the digital space and existing business owners looking to improve their enterprises.
Huawei Nigeria’s Managing Director, Chris Lu, expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the company and the Renewed Hope Initiative. He said the programme gave more women the confidence to lead in the global digital ecosystem.
He added, “Today, we are experiencing a world of opportunities and innovation where technology defines progress. Empowering women with digital skills is not just a matter of inclusion but a necessity for national progress. We know that when women rise, nations thrive.
“Over the past year, we have witnessed something truly inspiring women across the six geopolitical zones came together to learn, innovate, and embrace technology.

“To our finalists, you are all ambassadors of digital innovation and change. Please go forth and impact others in your communities. Let us remember that Renewed Hope is a reality we are all building together.”
The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Abdullahi, also gave remarks at the event. He praised the commitment of the First Lady and Huawei to the project.
He said, “Mr Chris said when you empower women, a nation rises, and I want to add that when you empower a man, you empower an individual, but when you empower a woman, you empower a nation.
“Your initiative resonates deeply across the nation, and every organisation is proud to associate with you. We thank you for the leadership and partnership, and at NITDA, we don’t take it for granted.
“Therefore, today, we are not just celebrating the participants of the Women in Tech training but celebrating ambassadors, families, and communities,” he said.
