Tragedy struck in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, as a motorcyclist was swept away by floodwaters after a heavy rainfall on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The incident occurred along Uwenlenbo Road, close to Zekor Hotel, and was captured in a viral video that has since spread widely on social media.
In the video, a narrator described the scene as horrifying, recounting how the raging torrent overpowered the motorcycle rider.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim had a female passenger on board before the force of the erosion swept him away. Onlookers could be heard urging residents to assist as the rider struggled against the current, but he was eventually carried off by the flood.

Sympathizers at the scene displayed the plate number of the victim’s motorcycle in an attempt to help relatives identify him.
The footage also showed community members lamenting the worsening impact of erosion in Ekpoma and across Edo State, calling for urgent intervention from both state and federal government authorities.
Residents say the recurring menace continues to threaten lives and property, with Tuesday’s incident underscoring the urgent need for sustainable erosion control measures in the affected communities.
