Former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Damagum, has formally handed over to the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee, NWC, marking the end of his tenure and a prolonged internal leadership dispute.
The transition took place on Tuesday, December 2, at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Damagum’s tenure officially ends on December 8, 2025, after months of factional conflict involving the group led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
During the ceremony, Damagum said the new NWC had been entrusted with the responsibility of restoring stability to the opposition party.
“The beauty of it is that we were able to surmount all the obstacles that we faced and we will continue to surmount them,” Damagum said.

He expressed optimism about the PDP’s future, describing it as the dominant party in Nigerian politics.
“That’s why they lose sleep about PDP. They keep putting different hurdles in our way, but God will see us through. We are positive. God is a just God; He does not support injustice,” he added.
Damagum also warned that those responsible for the party’s crises may enjoy temporary relief but would eventually face the consequences of their actions.
In his response, Turaki commended the outgoing NWC for its resilience and pledged to continue working toward the progress of the PDP.
