Former Ibeju-Lekki Councillor Arrested With 40kg of Skunk In Lagos

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former two-term councillor in Lagos State for alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.

The suspect, 45-year-old Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, who currently works as a legislative aide, was apprehended on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, a thorough search of Sheleru’s home led to the seizure of 40 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, from one of the rooms.

In a voluntary statement following his arrest, Sheleru reportedly admitted both ownership of the recovered drugs and the property where they were found.

He also confirmed his political history, noting he had served two terms as councillor representing the Orimedu community in Ibeju-Lekki.

“In his statement, Sheleru admitted ownership of the exhibit and the property where it was recovered,” the NDLEA said.

“He said he had previously served two terms as a Councillor representing Orimedu community in Ibeju-Lekki local government council.”

The arrest highlights continued efforts by the NDLEA to clamp down on drug trafficking networks in Lagos State and underscores concerns over the involvement of individuals in positions of influence in illicit activities.

Authorities have not disclosed further details on any pending investigations or charges, but the case is expected to proceed in line with Nigeria’s anti-narcotics laws.
