The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has celebrated women across the globe as the world observes International Women’s Day, recognising their contributions to social and economic progress.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the 8th of March, 2026, by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, commended women for their resilience, courage and achievements, stressing that their efforts remain central to the growth of families, communities and the economy.
Oladejo stated that administrations led by the APC in Lagos State have over the years introduced programmes and policies designed to strengthen women’s capacity and expand their presence in leadership and economic spaces.
He explained that the state has continued to record notable female participation in government, with women holding strategic positions including commissioners, permanent secretaries, lawmakers, special advisers, heads of agencies and judges of the High Court.
According to him, this level of representation shows the party’s belief that governance works better when leadership reflects diverse voices and perspectives.
Oladejo also pointed out that many women running small businesses, trading in markets and working as artisans across Lagos have gained support through empowerment schemes such as microcredit initiatives, skill acquisition programmes and cooperative platforms.
“These programmes have helped women operating in markets, small-scale enterprises and the creative sector to strengthen their businesses, improve household incomes and contribute to the overall growth of the state’s economy,” he said.

He further noted that the Lagos State government has introduced measures aimed at safeguarding women against abuse, improving access to healthcare and encouraging education for girls.
Oladejo added that women involved in areas such as agriculture, technology, education and the creative industry have equally received support through specialised training, grants and programmes designed to promote innovation and improve productivity.
He said these efforts show the party’s ongoing resolve to deepen gender inclusion and recognise women as key drivers of sustainable development.
“As we mark International Women’s Day, the Lagos APC reiterates its dedication to policies that encourage women’s participation in governance, widen economic opportunities and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to realise her full potential,” he said.
The party also congratulated women in Lagos State and across Nigeria, praising their perseverance and the roles they continue to play in the country’s advancement.
