Four Killed, 15 Injured In Ibadan–Oyo Expressway Lone Crash

Four persons have been confirmed dead while fifteen others sustained injuries in a lone motor accident involving a truck along the Ibadan–Oyo Expressway.

According to an X post shared by a security analyst, Zagagola Makama, on Tuesday, the accident involved a Glynlyon truck with registration number LSD 221 YM, which was travelling from Kebbi State to Ogun State.

The truck was reportedly conveying rocky stones, with 23 passengers seated on the stones at the back of the vehicle.

According to sources, the driver, Muhammed Jibril, an indigene of Adamawa State, lost control of the truck after hitting a pothole around the Fiditi area of the expressway. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn.

As the truck somersaulted, the heavy stones fell on the passengers, killing four persons instantly, while fifteen others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to the General Hospital in Oyo, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The remains of the deceased were evacuated to the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Authorities have once again cautioned motorists and transporters against overloading vehicles and conveying passengers in unsafe conditions, particularly on highways prone to road defects.
