Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday received the newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, at Government House, Port Harcourt, describing the visit as both warm and reassuring for the state’s security architecture.
Welcoming the Naval Chief, Governor Fubara congratulated him on his appointment and hailed his reputation for integrity, leadership and professional excellence. He emphasised Rivers State’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Nigerian Navy in protecting strategic waterways, safeguarding lives and securing vital economic assets across the oil-rich coastal belt.
“I want to thank the Nigerian Navy for protecting our people and our environment. Your work is not just a duty; it is a shared responsibility that ensures the safety and prosperity of Rivers State,” the Governor said.
Fubara pledged continued collaboration, promising that the state government would provide all necessary logistics and operational support to enhance naval activities. He also invited Vice Admiral Abbas to tour the state and experience its renowned hospitality.

Responding, the Chief of Naval Staff expressed appreciation for the Governor’s longstanding support to the Navy, recalling Rivers State’s earlier donation of six security gunboats and other facilities that strengthened naval operations in the region.
The visit further solidifies the strong relationship between Rivers State and the Nigerian Navy as both institutions work together to enhance security, stability and economic growth across the state’s waterways.
