Fubara Mourns Rivers Senator Mpigi, Says ‘He Was A Fighter’

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Senator Barinada Mpigi, joining residents across the state in mourning the late lawmaker.

Fubara spoke on Friday night during a service of songs held at the Missionary Anglican Church in Koroma, located in Tai Local Government Area, where he reflected on the life and legacy of the former representative of Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

According to a statement released on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor described Mpigi as a man who lived a meaningful and accomplished life, noting that his contributions would not be forgotten.

Reflecting on the inevitability of death, the governor noted that “death is the ultimate end of everything,” adding that no one has control over the length of their lifespan.

“He lived a great life. He was a fighter whose time had come and gone. We will remember him for the great works he did,” Fubara said.

The governor also urged the bereaved family to remain steadfast in the face of their loss, emphasizing that divine comfort is the only true source of solace.

“Our gathering here is not enough to console you. It is only God that can console you and fill that vacuum,” he added.

Fubara further revealed that he had earlier conveyed his condolences through a letter and paid a personal visit to the family after news of the senator’s death broke.

He also commended members of the National Assembly and residents of Koroma who turned out to honour the late lawmaker, offering prayers for their safe return to their respective destinations.
