Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of the state to remain peaceful and composed as the State House of Assembly advances efforts to remove him from office.
The governor made the call on Sunday, the 11th of January, 2026, while speaking at a church service in Port Harcourt organised to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Addressing the congregation, Fubara expressed optimism that the political situation would be brought to a proper conclusion. He explained that his decision to remain quiet in the face of recent developments was deliberate, noting that his calmness and resolve are anchored on his trust in God.
Recalling remarks he made earlier at the New Year banquet held at Government House, the governor stated that “dogs bark when they do not understand”.

Also speaking at the service, the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, urged residents to act with restraint and responsibility. She aligned her message with that of the Dean of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Blessing Eyinda, who had stressed during his sermon that every action leaves a lasting record.
Professor Odu further appealed to the people to sustain their prayers for the current administration, describing such spiritual support as an important pillar of strength for the government.
