Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has reinstated 81 government officials who were suspended last month for failing to attend a key state function.
The officials, including commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants, and permanent secretaries, were directed to resume work immediately, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
Their suspension, which took effect on July 28, 2025, was described as a one-month working suspension without salary. During the period, the affected appointees were also barred from signing any official document.

Among those suspended were the Attorney General and commissioners for Works, Finance, Information, Rural Development, Education, Agriculture, Water Resources, Commerce and Industry, Environment, Health, and Arts and Culture.
Also affected were 22 permanent secretaries, 14 senior special assistants, and 24 special assistants.
The disciplinary action was seen as a response to what the state government considered an act of negligence and disregard for official responsibilities.
With the suspension now lifted, the officials are expected to return to their posts and continue their duties without delay.
