The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, August 5, arraigned one of the state’s most wanted suspected assassins, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, before the Ogba Magistrate Court. The 44-year-old suspect is being charged with an 11-count indictment related to a decade-long reign of terror across Lagos and its environs.
Described by the police as “the most wanted vicious and notorious hired killer” in recent Lagos history, Akinwande is believed to be the mastermind behind a wave of violent crimes, including murder, armed robbery, cult-related killings, and kidnappings.
According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, Akinwande was arrested in June during a coordinated operation code-named Silence, Speed, and Surprise by the Command’s Tactical Squad. He was tracked to a hideout in the Agbado area of Ogun State after multiple failed attempts to apprehend him in Lagos, particularly around Mushin where he was known to operate.

The police reported that his arrest led to the recovery of nine sophisticated firearms, ammunition, magazines, a dagger, walkie-talkies, and international passports.
“He is the head of one of the deadliest gangs in Lagos’ recent criminal history,” Hundeyin said. “His apprehension is a significant milestone in the ongoing fight against violent crimes threatening residents’ safety.”
Family members of some of Akinwande’s alleged victims were also present in court and are expected to testify during the proceedings.
The case has sparked widespread public interest and is being closely watched as law enforcement agencies move to dismantle long-standing criminal networks across the state.
