A faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), has rejected Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s recent directive to dissolve all independent campaign groups backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
While acknowledging the governor’s intention to unify party efforts ahead of future elections, GMT argued that diverse political formations play a vital role during election seasons and should not be sidelined.
In a statement issued by its Ondo State Director of Media, Ojo Oyewamide, the group reminded the public of its contributions to Aiyedatiwa’s emergence during the buildup to the 2024 governorship election.
Governor Aiyedatiwa had on Friday, the 1st of August, 2025, insisted that all support groups working for Tinubu’s reelection in Ondo must align strictly under the APC’s official structure.
In response, Oyewamide advised GMT members to ignore the attempt to collapse the group’s framework into a single platform. He emphasized GMT’s wide reach across all 36 states and the FCT, noting that it “is not a product of Ondo State politics.”

He added, “We have noted with concern the efforts by some individuals to twist the outcomes of the caucus meeting, suggesting that all support groups working for President Tinubu must collapse into a single structure within the state.”
Citing past political experiences in the state, Oyewamide recalled: “History offers clear examples: during the last governorship election in Ondo State, several groups, including LACO-FS, the O Datiwa Group, Lucky Disciples, Partners with Lucky, and O Datiwa Ladies, worked alongside the party to deliver a resounding 18–0 victory.
“Similarly, under the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, vibrant groups such as the Aketi Mandate Group, Team Aketi, Ajapada, Ibi Giga Ambassadors, and Ibi Giga Initiatives all made notable contributions to the electoral success of the party.”
GMT stressed the importance of independent support groups in building momentum and delivering results during elections and maintained that its structure would remain intact.
