Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has described the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran as a religious war, urging Muslims to offer prayers in support of Iran.
In a post shared on his verified X handle, Gumi characterised the conflict as one rooted in religion, stating that the United States had waged war against Iran on religious grounds.
“The war of Iran is a religious war that America has fought, therefore all good Muslims should pray for Iran, may Allah help America and its supporters,” he wrote.
The cleric also cited a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad to buttress his position, referencing a narration in which companions asked about the recurrence of evil after a period of good, and warnings about leaders who would speak in the language of the people but not follow true guidance.

Quoting from the narration, Gumi highlighted passages that spoke about “callers at the gates of Hell” and individuals who would “speak with our tongues” but deviate from proper guidance.
His remarks come amid heightened global tensions involving the United States and Iran, with growing concerns over possible escalation and its implications for regional and global security.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the United States government regarding the cleric’s comments.
