Gunmen Shoot Ogoni Monarch in Rivers

An Ogoni traditional ruler, the Gbenemene Bangha in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Suanu T.Y. Baridam, has reportedly been shot by unknown gunmen.

The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday as the monarch was returning from an engagement in Okwale community.

He was reportedly attacked along the Taabaa junction–Sogho axis in Khana Local Government Area.

Sources familiar with the incident said the traditional ruler sustained gunshot injuries and was immediately taken to an undisclosed hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

His condition was not officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Rivers State Police Command were ongoing as of press time.

Residents of the area were said to be in shock following the attack, with concerns growing over security in the axis.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations progress.
