Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi returned to Nigeria in early February to attend the burial of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who died in a road accident on Tuesday, January 27, in Umunede, Delta State.
The tragedy left the family and Nigeria’s football community in mourning.
The burial rites took place on Friday, February 13, 2026, in Umunede, drawing relatives, friends, football officials and well‑wishers who gathered to pay their respects to the late retired military officer.
Ndidi, known for his professionalism and leadership on and off the pitch, remained close to family throughout the ceremony.

In the days before the funeral, senior officials from the Nigeria Football Federation visited Ndidi in Asaba on Thursday, February 12, to offer condolences and support.
Messages of sympathy also poured in from teammates, fans and colleagues, reflecting the midfielder’s influence in Nigerian football.
Ndidi, who currently plays for Leicester City, is expected to return to his professional duties after completing family obligations, closing a deeply personal chapter of loss with dignity and solidarity.
