Manchester United have stepped up their search for midfield reinforcements, with Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi emerging as a serious option as the club weighs experienced additions to its squad.
The Red Devils have revived their interest in Ndidi, who is currently with Turkish giants Besiktas, just six months after the Nigerian midfielder joined the Istanbul-based side.
Ndidi moved to Besiktas last summer on a three-year contract in a deal reportedly worth €9.5m and has since been appointed the club’s vice-captain.
United had previously explored a move for the former Leicester City midfielder during the summer of 2025, when his availability was boosted by a relegation clause following the Foxes’ drop from the Premier League.
Although no deal was concluded at the time, concerns over midfield rotation, fitness and experience have pushed Ndidi back onto the club’s radar.
According to senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs, Manchester United are monitoring the situation closely, with Besiktas open to negotiations despite Ndidi’s short stay in Turkey.
The Turkish side are said to be willing to consider a structured deal—either a loan with an option to buy or a conditional obligation—valued between €12m and €15m.
Jacobs, speaking on fan outlet The United Stand, noted that Ndidi is well compensated at Besiktas, with his wage demands potentially influencing United’s final decision.
He added that other midfield targets, such as Rúben Neves, are currently viewed as difficult to secure.
Further reports suggest United have already initiated talks. Man United News, citing journalist Alan Myers, revealed that discussions have taken place and that Ndidi is open to a return to England.

“My contacts in Turkey tell me Manchester United have held talks about Wilfred Ndidi. The player is anxious to return to England,” Myers wrote on X.
Ndidi’s appeal to United lies in his leadership, positional discipline and defensive intelligence—qualities honed during his six-year spell at Leicester City, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defensive midfielders.
His familiarity with the league and ability to bring stability rather than flair make him an attractive option for a United side often reliant on younger players.
While internal talks at Old Trafford have also included other names, such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ndidi’s experience, leadership and Premier League pedigree continue to keep him firmly in contention.
The 29-year-old recently captained Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, further strengthening his profile as Manchester United consider a possible winter move to bolster their midfield.
