Bright Chimezie has urged Nigerians to rethink the rush to relocate abroad, warning that life overseas is far from the paradise many imagine.
In a short clip from The Honest Bunch Podcast shared today, Sunday, October 5, ahead of the full episode premiere tomorrow, Monday, October 6, Chimezie said the “Japa” craze is driven by false hopes.
He noted that many Nigerians who emigrate often face harsh realities abroad.

“Many of us believe the grass is greener on the other side, but it’s not,” he said. “When you get there, you start from the bottom, sometimes washing toilets just to survive.”
Chimezie, celebrated for his socially conscious highlife sound, added that the fixation on foreign lands stems from lingering colonial influence that has distorted Nigeria’s sense of self-reliance.
