Rob Reiner, the acclaimed director and actor, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles, residence on December 14, 2025, in what police are treating as an apparent homicide.
Reiner, 78, was known for directing some of Hollywood’s most enduring films, including When Harry Met Sally…, This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men.
He also gained recognition for his acting work, most notably as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the television series All in the Family.
Michele Singer, 68, was a respected figure in the Los Angeles philanthropic community, supporting arts initiatives and charitable causes alongside her husband.
Friends and colleagues described the couple as deeply committed to each other and actively engaged in both creative and civic pursuits.
Family members discovered the couple on Sunday afternoon, prompting a response from emergency services around 3:38 p.m.
Both sustained fatal stab wounds, leading the Los Angeles Police Department to open a homicide investigation.

Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made arrests.
The Reiners’ sudden deaths have shocked Hollywood and drawn widespread attention, highlighting both Rob Reiner’s influence on generations of filmmakers and Michele Singer’s contributions to her community.
In a statement released on December 15, 2025, the family said, “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division continues to investigate, gathering evidence and working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
