I Don’t Want To Just Console I Want To Establish Peace” Tinubu Declares in Jos

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday visited Jos, Plateau State, to commiserate with victims and families affected by Sunday’s deadly attack that claimed at least 28 lives and left several others injured.

During the visit, the President met with government officials, traditional leaders, and grieving families, offering condolences and reassurance that efforts are underway to prevent a recurrence of such violence.

Addressing victims, Tinubu acknowledged the depth of their loss, noting that no amount of financial compensation could replace the lives lost.

He, however, pledged that the federal government would provide support and take decisive steps to ensure lasting peace in the state.

In an emotional moment, the President spoke directly to a grieving mother whose image holding her deceased son circulated widely after the attack.

He expressed empathy for her pain and prayed for divine comfort, emphasising that the government shares in her grief.

Tinubu stressed that beyond condolence visits, his administration is committed to restoring stability and rebuilding trust within communities affected by violence.

“I don’t want to be here merely commiserating and consoling. I want to be here to establish peace,” he said.

He also reiterated that his administration was elected on the promise of peace, prosperity, and inclusive governance, adding that renewed efforts would be made to return Jos to its reputation as a peaceful and united city.

The President’s visit comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in Plateau State, where recurring attacks have continued to disrupt lives and livelihoods.

Residents and stakeholders have called for sustained government intervention to address the root causes of the violence and ensure long-term security in the region.
