President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of federal appointments, naming new leadership for key government agencies, even as public attention remains fixed on the recent deadly attacks in Jos, Plateau State.
In a State House press release issued on Monday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President appointed Senator Ibrahim Ida as Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and nominated seven individuals as federal commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC), subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.
The nominees include representatives from Ekiti, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kwara, Katsina, Jigawa, and Sokoto states, reflecting a nationwide spread. The appointments are intended to fill existing vacancies and strengthen the operational capacity of the commission.
The President also approved the appointment of Dr Yusuf Mohammed as Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, while confirming Bala Mohammed Bello as Special Adviser on Political Economy.
Bello, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, brings years of financial and administrative experience to the role.

According to the presidency, the appointments align with the administration’s commitment to improving governance and enhancing service delivery across institutions.
However, the timing of the announcement has drawn attention, coming less than 24 hours after reports of a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, where several lives were lost and many others injured.
As of the time of filing this report, the President had yet to issue a direct public statement addressing the killings, a development that has sparked conversations among citizens and observers about the government’s response to ongoing security challenges.
The Jos attack, which prompted the imposition of a curfew in affected areas, has added to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, with calls for stronger and more immediate action from authorities.
While the presidency maintains that the new appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance structures, the contrast between administrative actions and the absence of an official reaction to the violence underscores the complex challenges currently facing the administration.
