Ibeju-Lekki Chairman Urges Calm Amid Concerns Over Influx Of Newcomers

The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area in Lagos State, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has appealed to residents to remain calm following concerns over the recent arrival of unidentified groups of people in some communities within the council area.

The reassurance comes amid growing anxiety among residents, fueled by reports and viral social media posts alleging that suspected bandits had been apprehended in parts of the locality.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Olowa acknowledged that his administration had received reports regarding the influx of certain individuals into communities across Ibeju-Lekki and had taken immediate steps to address the situation.

According to him, the safety and security of residents remain a top priority, prompting the local government to engage relevant security agencies to assess and monitor developments.

The council boss disclosed that security authorities at both the state and local levels are fully aware of the situation and have intensified surveillance efforts to ensure that peace and order are maintained.

“I am pleased to inform residents that security authorities at both the state and local levels are fully aware of the situation and are actively monitoring developments. Necessary intelligence and security measures are being implemented to ensure the continued peace and stability of our communities,” Olowa stated.

He emphasized that while security challenges continue to affect various parts of the country, residents also have a role to play in protecting their communities by remaining vigilant and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.

Olowa urged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movements, individuals, or activities through appropriate security channels, stressing that timely information could help prevent potential security threats.

The statement comes in response to heightened public concern after videos circulated online claiming that suspected criminals had been arrested in the area, sparking fears among residents.

Authorities have not confirmed the claims in the viral videos, but security agencies are said to be closely monitoring the situation as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the local government area.
