ICPC Arrests Civil Defence Deputy Commandant Over Alleged Corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested a Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State, Adam Yusuf, over alleged involvement in corruption.

According to a statement issued on Friday by ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare, Yusuf had been evading authorities before he was apprehended at his residence in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The commission confirmed that he is now set to face prosecution.

Investigations by the ICPC also uncovered a massive corruption scheme allegedly masterminded by a retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, alongside former Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum.

The scheme reportedly involved the diversion of over N3 billion in public funds through 92 fictitious companies, none of which were registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The commission traced the laundered funds to various companies, including Lahab Integrated and Gate Coast Properties.

The illicit proceeds were allegedly used to acquire over 18 properties, including multiple filling stations.

“So far, four of these properties have been forfeited to the government, while legal proceedings are ongoing regarding the rest,” the ICPC statement read.

The anti-graft agency also vowed to intensify efforts to track down other suspects still at large.

The arrest of Yusuf and the revelations surrounding the broader corruption scheme mark another major move by the ICPC in its fight against financial crimes and abuse of public office.
