Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered strengthened security measures and intensified operations following a terrorist attack along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where 10 police officers and other civilians were killed.
The statement was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Thursday, from the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In response to the attack, Disu on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, deployed a delegation led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Kebbi State to engage with Governor Nasir Idris and other stakeholders on the security situation.
The delegation was also mandated to reinforce ongoing efforts to prevent further attacks, protect vulnerable communities and restore lasting peace in the affected areas.
During the engagement, the delegation conveyed the IGP’s concern over the loss of the police personnel and civilians, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would ensure that the sacrifice of the fallen officers was not in vain.
Disu directed that all available operational and intelligence resources be deployed to identify, track and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of the families of the deceased officers, assuring that the bereaved families would receive necessary support in line with the Force’s welfare policies.

Governor Idris commended the police personnel for their courage and sacrifice, while assuring the delegation of the state government’s continued support for the police and other security agencies in the fight against terrorists and criminal elements.
The governor also pledged sustained collaboration with security agencies, particularly through improved intelligence sharing and support for security operations aimed at preventing criminal groups from establishing or maintaining safe havens in the state.
The Inspector-General of Police thanked the Kebbi State Government for its partnership and support, reiterating the Force’s resolve to intensify intelligence-led and coordinated operations against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue working with the Kebbi State Government, sister security agencies and local communities to protect lives and property in the state and across the country.
The Force also honoured the memory of the fallen officers and assured their families and the public that efforts would be intensified to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
