The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu, Ph.D., NPM, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, decorated 39 newly promoted senior police officers at a grand ceremony held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The event marked a major milestone in ongoing police reforms, as 20 Commissioners of Police (CPs) were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), while 19 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCs) were promoted to substantive CPs. The promotions were approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC) based on recommendations from the IGP.
Speaking at the ceremony, IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the recent promotions reflect his administration’s commitment to recognizing dedication and merit within the Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force is undergoing transformation, and it is imperative that you, as leaders, champion the reforms and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and service,” IGP Egbetokun said.
He further noted, “The elevation of officers reflects our dedication to professionalism and merit. You must carry the torch of reform and ensure that the police force remains a pillar of security and order in Nigeria.”
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, “The Nigeria Police Force has witnessed an unprecedented number of promotions under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, reinforcing efforts to strengthen law enforcement across the country.”
Among those promoted to the rank of AIG are: Fasuba Olabode, Musibau Ajani, Aliyu Abubakar, Patrick Adedeji Atayero, Gyogon Grimah, Olaiya Victor Mobolaji, Chukwudi Ariekpere, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, Olaolu Adegbite, Godwin Eze, Disu Olatunji Rilwan.
Others are Alausa Tolani, Kareem Musa, Mohammed Shehu Dalijan, Dan-Mamman Shawulu, Clement Robert, Musa Auwal Mohammed, Thomas Abraham Nabhoni, Abel Jangnap Zwalchir, Ifeanyi Uka.
The 19 newly promoted Commissioners of Police include: Usman Tahir, Sunday Okoebor, Ayodeji Faniyan, Saka Adewale Ajao, Omole Ola, Hope Okafor, Ajo Geofrey Oroue, Olufunke Ogunbode, Stephen Ogedengbe.

The rest are Iyabode Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, Adebowale Lawal, Ojo Adekimi, Yemi Oyeniyi, Obasi Okereke, Moses Ottah, Felix Nnebue, Gazali Abdulsalam, Fidelis Ogarabe, Olubode Ojajuni
According to Adejobi, “The ceremony was graced by high-profile dignitaries, including former Senate President David Mark; Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan; former Governor of Ekiti State Otunba Niyi Adebayo; and former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke.”
Also present were members of the Force Management Team, serving and retired senior police officers, and families of the newly promoted officers.
IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers and urged them to embrace a strategic and progressive approach to policing.
“The Nigeria Police Force is undergoing transformation, and it is imperative that you, as leaders, champion the reforms and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and service,” he stated.
He also urged the newly promoted officers to lead by example and ensure that their leadership contributes to ongoing reforms within the Force.
Adejobi added, “The newly promoted officers have pledged their commitment to upholding the values of discipline, integrity, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.”
The event concluded with celebrations as families, friends, and colleagues congratulated the newly decorated officers on their well-earned promotions.
