Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the removal of Commissioner of Police Ajao S. Adewale as head of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
The directive, contained in an internal police signal with reference number TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.6/213, was issued on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
It announced the posting of CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye as the new Commissioner of Police for the FCT and DCP Wilson Aniefiok Akpan as the new Commissioner of Police in charge of Kogi State Command.
Police insiders described the transfers as part of routine internal realignments aimed at improving operational efficiency across key formations.
The postings, however, remain subject to confirmation by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The shake-up follows mounting public pressure from human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who had called for Adewale’s removal over his handling of investigations into the killing of Somtochukwu Maduagwu (popularly known as Sommie), an ARISE News journalist, and a private security guard during a robbery in Abuja.

Sowore accused the FCT police boss of making remarks that appeared to downplay the severity of the killings comments that sparked outrage and calls for accountability across social media platforms.
The FCT Police Command had earlier stated that investigations were ongoing to apprehend all suspects connected to the incident, which occurred in Gwarinpa, one of Abuja’s major districts.
Meanwhile, CP Dantawaye, who previously served as Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, is expected to assume duty in Abuja in the coming days.
DCP Akpan, before his latest posting, was Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, FCT Command.
