IGP Orders Nationwide Police Deployment, Ensures Safe Christmas, New Year

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the strategic deployment of police personnel and operational assets across Nigeria to ensure a safe, peaceful, and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration.

The directive was contained in a statement posted on the Nigeria Police Force’s official X account on Monday, December 22, 2025, signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the IGP.

In line with the Force’s proactive security strategy for the festive period, all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and State Command Commissioners of Police (CPs) have been instructed to intensify patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and community engagement.

Specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Command, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, Special Intervention Squad, Highway Patrol, Marine Police, and the Airwing, have been placed on heightened operational readiness.

The deployment focuses on places of worship, recreational centres, markets, parks, event venues, transport terminals, highways, critical national infrastructure, and other high-density public spaces.

Patrol and surveillance teams have also been activated to monitor inter-state routes and major expressways, aiming to prevent road-related crimes, traffic disorder, and accidents.

Officers are expected to enforce the law firmly but courteously.

The IGP further instructed commands to sustain raids on known criminal blackspots, forests, and flashpoints, and to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure comprehensive security coverage.

While wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, the IGP urged citizens to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via emergency lines.

The Nigeria Police Force assured the public of its commitment to ensuring that Nigerians enjoy the Yuletide season in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and security.
