Crime is tightening its grip on three major parts of Lagos Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki. The Lagos State Government flagged these areas as the most crime-prone zones, a development revealed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN.
He spoke on Thursday during a ministerial briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja, as part of activities marking the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.
Drawing from records in the Lagos State Criminal Information System, Pedro painted a troubling picture of rising criminal activity in the state’s key commercial and residential districts.
“Between January 2024 and May 2025, the top three crime locations in Lagos State were Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki,” the Attorney-General said.
He went further to reveal that the LCIS has tracked 74,962 criminal cases and inmates across the state between 2018 and May 2025.

Lagos correctional centres, he added, are now buckling under pressure, operating at 106 percent over capacity. As of May 2025, the total number of inmates had risen to 9,096, far beyond what the facilities were built to contain.
Pedro stressed the role of LCIS in the broader justice system, describing it as a digital tool meant to speed up legal processes and provide reliable data for policy making.
It’s more than just a database, it’s the state’s attempt to bring order to a strained system and map out a smarter response to crime.
