…Backs Anyanwu at South East PDP Stakeholders’ Meeting
Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has declared that despite widespread perceptions of crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s “ghost” remains more formidable than many of Nigeria’s active political parties.
Speaking at a South East PDP stakeholders’ meeting, Ikpeazu urged party members to unite and await the outcome of the reconciliation process led by former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki.
“Even in what some may call its weakest moment, the ghost of the PDP is stronger than most political parties in this country,” Ikpeazu said. “That’s why we must be careful not to destroy what we’ve built over the years. We should close ranks, respect constituted authority, and allow peace to reign.”
The meeting comes amid internal wrangling over the leadership of the party in the region. Ikpeazu threw his weight behind the embattled National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, urging stakeholders to allow him complete his tenure, which expires in December 2025.
“Is there anything we’ve asked Senator Anyanwu to do for the South East as National Secretary that he hasn’t done?” Ikpeazu asked. “I appeal to our leaders to allow him finish his tenure. We must not let ourselves be distracted, no matter the provocation.”

He also cautioned against ignoring the Supreme Court judgment affirming Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP, warning that such disregard could further destabilize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reconciliation committee led by Saraki was constituted by serving and former PDP governors to address internal disputes and ensure a smooth National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and National Convention.
Ikpeazu stressed the importance of unity in the South East, urging all factions to prioritize the party’s collective interest over individual ambitions.
“We cannot afford division now. What we need is unity of purpose to reposition the PDP and ensure victory in 2027,” he said.
