INEC Announces Final Phase Of Voter Registration From May 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will begin nationwide on Monday, May 11, 2026.

The commission disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday, May 5, and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee.

According to INEC, the upcoming phase follows the suspension of the second phase on April 17, 2026, which was necessary to allow for the clean-up of the voter register after it was published for claims and objections.

The commission stated that the final phase will run until Friday, July 10, 2026, and urged all eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the window to register.

It noted that citizens who have recently turned 18, as well as those who missed earlier registration opportunities, are expected to participate during this period.

INEC also advised already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or update their personal details to either visit its online portal or designated offices nationwide.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that the current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume for its third and final phase on Monday, 11th May 2027,” the statement read.

It added, “Similarly, registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct their biodata, are advised to access the Commission’s dedicated online portal at cvr.inecnigeria.org or visit INEC State and Local Government Area offices nationwide.”

As part of the process, the commission said the updated voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026, allowing Nigerians to raise claims or objections where necessary.

“This statutory exercise provides an important opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and assist the Commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness and credibility,” the statement added.

INEC assured the public that adequate preparations have been made to ensure a seamless exercise across the country.

The commission also called on Nigerians to actively participate, stressing that voter registration remains a critical step in strengthening the country’s electoral process and democratic system.
