Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified offensive against terrorists in Zamfara State, neutralising suspected fighters and recovering weapons during a series of coordinated operations across multiple communities.

The operation, conducted by Sector 2 on Monday, targeted identified terrorists’ enclaves in several locations, including Maikwanuga village in Talata Mafara and Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, Magami Didi, and Tungar Magaji villages in Maradun.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Aliyu Danja, on Tuesday.

According to a statement, troops made contact with fighters in Tungar Magaji, where they engaged them with what he described as “overwhelming firepower.”

It was gathered that two terrorists were neutralised in the encounter, while others reportedly fled the scene.

A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition, as well as a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing fighters.

The military noted that the latest offensive forms part of an ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist hideouts within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor, a region long associated with armed groups activity in the state.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of residents across affected communities.

The task force also called on members of the public to support ongoing efforts by providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.

The North West region of Nigeria has faced persistent security challenges in recent years, with military operations continuing to target armed groups operating in rural and forested areas.
