INEC Cautions Against Multiple Voters Registration, to Delist Offenders

The Independent National Electoral Commission has cautioned Nigerians to avoid registering more than once during the upcoming Continuous Voters Registration exercise.

Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, issued the warning on Wednesday, August 13, at a stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the nationwide exercise.

He stressed that multiple registration is a serious offence that carries severe consequences. According to him, anyone caught would be removed entirely from the voter register.

Voter registration is not only a fundamental right, but also a duty of every eligible citizen of Nigeria,” Sadiq said.

“No individual can vote in an election unless they are duly registered.

“We urge all Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 and above and are not yet registered to seize this opportunity and get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

“The commission will not accept multiple registration as any attempt to get involved in such an act may lead to such registrants being completely listed on the register.”

He announced that the CVR would officially begin on August 18 with an online registration phase.

Sadiq encouraged Plateau residents who had registered in previous years to use the period to collect their PVCs.

“The online registration can take place anywhere and at any time. The website to visit is https://www.crv.inecnigeria.org.

“The exercise is basically for new voters that have attained the age of 18 and above, collection or transfer of PVC and replacement, lost or damaged PVC,” he explained.

The REC added that INEC had set up measures to ensure only eligible Nigerian citizens take part in the process.

He urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties and other community leaders to help mobilise and educate residents on the importance of registering and collecting their PVCs.
