The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted a viral graphic circulating online which claims that the 26th of March has been fixed as the deadline for government officials intending to contest elections to step down from their positions.
In a statement shared on Friday, the 6th of March, 2026, through its verified X handle, the electoral body clarified that the information did not originate from the Commission and described the circulating graphic as false and misleading.
INEC urged the public, media outlets, and political stakeholders to completely disregard the message, stressing that it does not represent any official communication from the Commission.
The Commission also reminded Nigerians that every official announcement is released only through its verified communication channels, including its official website, verified social media platforms, and authorised press statements.
