INEC to Display Voter Register Dec 15, Urges Nigerians to Verify Details

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on Nigerians to closely examine the national voter register and flag ineligible and deceased persons as it begins its Display for Claims and Objections exercise on December 15, 2025.

The appeal comes as the commission prepares to end the first quarter of its current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which concludes on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

According to a statement from INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta‑Messi, the seven‑day display period is a crucial safeguard required under Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022 to maintain the integrity of the voter roll.

She said the exercise will take place simultaneously across all 774 local government areas from December 15 to 21, giving Nigerians an opportunity to verify their details and report anomalies.

“The commission urges all eligible citizens, especially those who registered, transferred, or updated their information during this phase, to use this statutory window to verify their details, report inaccuracies, and draw attention to ineligible or deceased persons on the register,” Eta‑Messi said.

She emphasised that citizens must play an active role in ensuring credible elections by helping to clean up the voter list and prevent fraudulent or duplicate registrations.

Giving an update on progress, INEC said that after 13 weeks of the registration exercise, 9,891,801 new online pre‑registrations had been recorded nationwide, while 2,572,054 applicants have completed the process, 1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 through physical registration as of November 28, 2025.

Eta‑Messi added that voter registration remains on hold in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral processes but assured that new dates for resumption would be announced soon.

She confirmed that the second phase of the CVR is scheduled to resume on January 5, 2026, following INEC’s earlier timetable.

Reaffirming the commission’s commitment to transparency and inclusion, INEC said that citizens’ participation is vital in building a credible voter register that reflects Nigeria’s democracy and ensures fair representation in future elections.
