President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare, professionalism, and efficiency of the Nigerian Army, describing the force as a cornerstone of the country’s stability and unity.
Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the opening of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2025 in Lagos on Monday, December 15, Tinubu assured that the federal government will continue supporting the Armed Forces to effectively carry out their constitutional mandate.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, Tinubu expressed gratitude to both serving and retired officers for their dedication and sacrifice.
“Their sacrifices, leadership, and institutional memory shape the Army. I commend the courage and patriotism of those placing national duty above personal comfort — their defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity is etched in our history,” he said.
The president noted that the conference provided a key platform for strategic thinking and innovation in response to emerging security threats.
He also acknowledged the presence of former service chiefs and elder statesmen, which he said demonstrated the Army’s institutional continuity and resilience.
Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, described the conference as essential for assessing the Army’s readiness and alignment with national development goals.
