Abubakar Malami, SAN, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has formally called for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukayode, to recuse himself from the ongoing investigation into his affairs.
In his demand, Malami leveled accusations against Olukayode, claiming bias, personal vendetta, and political persecution. He linked these alleged motives to Malami’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking through his media aide, Muhammad Doka, on Monday, the 15th of December, 2025, the former AGF alleged that the EFCC’s actions currently encompass what he termed illegal detention, media harassment and procedural abuse.

Malami maintained that the probe targeting him is not predicated on genuine law enforcement considerations but is instead fueled by a deep-seated historical animosity on the part of the EFCC leadership.
The former Minister of Justice expressed his conviction that he cannot be subjected to a fair process under the current EFCC leadership. “I have been clearly pre-judged and cannot receive a fair, objective or lawful investigation under the current leadership of the EFCC,” Malami insisted.
