Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has dismissed speculations that her recent visit to her hometown was politically motivated, emphasizing that it was solely a celebration of Sallah with her constituents.
The senator, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, described claims that she staged the gathering or paid attendees as baseless and misleading.
“This was a celebration of unity and shared love, not politics,” Akpoti-Uduaghan stated. “The people who welcomed me did so of their own free will, and I deeply appreciate their sacrifice.”
Her statement comes in response to suggestions that the overwhelming turnout at the event had political undertones, especially given the government-imposed restrictions on vehicular movement. Despite the limitations, thousands of supporters defied the odds, trekking through bush paths and facing various challenges to be part of the celebration. Some even encountered attacks on their way but remained undeterred in their resolve to honor their senator.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who arrived by helicopter, was met with jubilant cheers from her constituents, a moment that underscored her strong connection with the people. She noted that the turnout represented only a small fraction—less than three percent—of her total support base across the district.

“The turnout was not about politics but a testament to the love and trust my people have in me,” she added.
Beyond the grand reception, the visit also highlighted her contributions to regional development. The very road where people gathered to welcome her was among the infrastructure projects she facilitated long before her election to the Senate. Her tenure has been marked by significant improvements in infrastructure, empowerment programs, and social welfare initiatives aimed at transforming lives in Kogi Central.
“I remain dedicated to the progress of our land,” Akpoti-Uduaghan assured. “Your presence here today, despite the challenges, humbles me and strengthens my resolve to work even harder for our people.”
While political opponents may attempt to frame the visit as a strategic maneuver, the massive turnout signaled the senator’s enduring influence and deep-rooted support within Kogi Central. More than just a Sallah celebration, the event reinforced Akpoti-Uduaghan’s position as a leader genuinely committed to the welfare of her people.
As the momentum behind her leadership continues to grow, it is evident that her bond with constituents remains unshaken, regardless of political narratives.
