Wike Approves Employment of 34 Resident Doctors in FCT Healthcare Reform

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is set to experience a boost in its healthcare services following the approval of 34 resident doctors’ employment by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

This initiative is part of a structured seven-year residency training program aimed at enhancing medical expertise within FCTA hospitals.

This recruitment marks the initial phase of a broader plan to bring in 60 medical residency trainees across eight key specialties.

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, confirmed this in a statement released on Wednesday.

He emphasized that the move will significantly improve the quality of healthcare in the region.

For the first time, the recruitment of resident doctors is being conducted outside the Health Management Board, an approach designed to create more employment opportunities for medical professionals while expanding the capacity of FCTA hospitals.

The newly employed doctors will undergo specialized training in psychiatry, internal medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, family medicine, ophthalmology, and obstetrics and gynecology.

Further reinforcing this commitment to healthcare improvement, the FCTA Civil Service Commission is set to begin the recruitment of an additional 26 resident doctors.

These professionals will cover specialties including pediatrics, ensuring a comprehensive expansion of medical services across the territory.
