Italian Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani Dies at 91

Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91. His death was confirmed on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Born on July 11, 1934, Armani co-founded his fashion house in 1975 with Sergio Galeotti, building it into one of the world’s leading luxury brands.

Over five decades, he served as both chief executive and creative director, overseeing an empire that spanned couture, ready-to-wear, fragrances, homeware, and hotels.

Renowned for his understated tailoring and clean lines, Armani revolutionized modern menswear and redefined red-carpet elegance.

He was also known for introducing androgynous styles that influenced global fashion trends for decades.

In July 2025, on his 91st birthday, Armani announced he would return to the fashion spotlight in September after recovering from a health setback that forced him to miss the Milan and Paris shows earlier in the year.

Just days before his death, he launched a digital archive celebrating the brand’s 50th anniversary and outlined a succession plan to gradually transfer responsibilities to longtime collaborators and family members.

Armani’s fashion house reported revenues of over €2.3 billion in 2024, reflecting its continued global influence.

His passing marks the end of an era for Italian and international fashion.
