The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has clarified the different admission statuses candidates may encounter on its Central Admissions Processing System.
The Board explained the meanings of “Not Admitted,” “Admission in Progress” and “Admitted” in an explainer video released on Thursday, while advising candidates to regularly check their CAPS accounts for updates.
According to JAMB, the “Not Admitted” status means that a candidate has not yet received an admission offer. However, the Board stressed that the status does not mean the candidate has been ruled out of the admission process.
Candidates in that category were advised to continue monitoring their CAPS as institutions process admissions.
JAMB said the “Admission in Progress” status indicates that an institution may have proposed a candidate for admission, but the offer has not completed all required approval stages.
The Board explained that the status could mean an institution’s admission officer had recommended the candidate and was awaiting approval from the head of the institution.
It added that the status could also occur when the head of the institution had endorsed the candidate but the proposed admission was still awaiting JAMB’s final approval.
JAMB cautioned candidates not to interpret “Admission in Progress” as confirmation that they had secured admission.
The Board noted that a proposed admission could still be rejected if the candidate failed to satisfy the necessary requirements.

“This is because the recommended offer could still be disapproved by the Board if you don’t meet the prerequisite requirements,” JAMB stated.
On the “Admitted” status, JAMB said it appears after the Board has officially approved the institution’s admission recommendation.
It said candidates at that stage would receive the notification: “CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION.”
Once an admission offer is approved, candidates can use CAPS to accept or reject the offer, according to the Board.
JAMB further explained that CAPS statuses are not necessarily permanent and may change as the admission process advances.
The Board urged candidates to keep checking their CAPS accounts until the admission process reaches its final stage, which includes printing the admission letter.
It also advised candidates to rely on JAMB’s official communication channels for accurate information concerning their admission status.
