The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Wednesday, February 25, informed the Senate that it aims to generate ₦23.8 billion as internally generated revenue (IGR) for the 2026 fiscal year, marking a ₦4 billion increase over its 2025 projection.
The revenue projection was part of the agency’s 2026 budget estimates presented to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund by Dr. Muftau Bello, a director in the office of the Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
According to Bello, ₦6 billion of the projected revenue will be remitted to the Federation Account as operating surplus.
“A total of ₦30.6 billion budget profile is proposed by JAMB in 2026, out of which ₦23.8 billion is to be generated internally and ₦6 billion to be remitted into the federation account as operating surplus for the year,” he said.
The board also accounted for its 2025 budget performance, reporting that it generated ₦18.5 billion as IGR and remitted ₦4 billion to the Federation Account as operating surplus.

On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Bello said that 1,000 examination centres have been created nationwide, a significant increase from fewer than 800 centres used in 2025.
He explained that the expansion is aimed at improving access and easing logistics for candidates.
Members of the committee, chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse, commended JAMB’s financial performance and operational expansion under the leadership of Professor Oloyede.
However, Senator Yohanna Amos (Adamawa North) urged the board to further reduce the UTME examination fee, currently ₦3,500.
Bello responded that the fee had previously been ₦5,000 before the current registrar reduced it to ₦3,500.
