The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reopened its National Identification Number (NIN) alignment service, allowing eligible candidates to correct discrepancies between their examination records and information held by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The board announced the reopening on its official X account, @jamb_hq, on Friday, October 16, 2026, warning that the opportunity is available only once and that applications will not be approved automatically.
What is NIN alignment?
NIN alignment allows candidates to reconcile mismatched personal details in their JAMB profiles with their NIMC records. These discrepancies may involve names, dates of birth and other biodata fields.
Accurate records are important because inconsistencies can complicate verification and admission processes.

How can candidates apply?
Candidates should follow these steps:
1. Correct your NIMC records first. Ensure errors in your name, date of birth or other personal details are corrected through NIMC’s official self-service modification portal at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng or an authorised NIMC centre.
2. Confirm the changes. Check that the corrections have been fully updated on your NIN record before proceeding.
3. Prepare supporting documents. Keep relevant documents, such as a birth certificate or other applicable evidence, available for verification.
4. Follow JAMB’s instructions. Watch the official JAMB Explained video attached to the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) @jamb_hq for the application procedure, eligible fields and specific requirements.
5. Review before submitting. Select all necessary corrections in one application and ensure the information is accurate and complete.
What should candidates know?
JAMB stressed that the reopening is a one-time opportunity. Applications will undergo verification, and approval is not guaranteed.
Candidates should use only official JAMB and NIMC channels, avoid third-party agents and wait for confirmation after applying. Do not assume that submitting an application means your records have been successfully aligned.
