The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned prospective students against accepting admission offers issued outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), warning that such offers may not be recognised.
The board issued the warning in a post on its official social media platforms on Monday, October 12, advising candidates to confirm their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer.
“An admission offered by an institution outside the approved JAMB admission process may not be recognised as valid.
“Accepting such an offer could put your academic journey at risk and create complications with your admission records and related processes,” the board said.
The warning accompanied an episode of JAMB’s “JAMB Explained” series, which examines what constitutes illegal admission, the consequences for candidates and measures they can take to protect themselves.
Reinforcing its advice, the board urged candidates to confirm their admission status on CAPS before accepting an offer.
“Your admission journey deserves the right foundation. Verify before you accept,” it added.

According to information on JAMB’s official website, CAPS was introduced to automate the admission process into tertiary institutions and ensure that admissions are handled within the approved framework.
The platform enables candidates to check their admission status and accept provisional offers, while allowing institutions to process admissions through the system.
JAMB’s 2026 admission guidelines also require tertiary institutions to process admissions through the board, with candidates expected to obtain their admission letters through its e-Facility platform.
“Any offer of admission from any tertiary institution without JAMB Admission Letter is illegal and is not recognized by the Board,” the guidelines state.
The guidelines further warn that candidates who accept admission outside CAPS bear the consequences, noting that JAMB will neither recognise nor condone such offers.
Candidates seeking to confirm their admission status or access CAPS can visit the board’s official website at jamb.gov.ng.
