A Jos High Court has sentenced Thomas Danboyi and Pam Lang to death by hanging for the 2010 murder of Chung Bot, a farmer in Tahai Gyel Bukuru, Jos South LGA.

Delivering the verdict, Justice David Mann ruled that the killing—linked to a land dispute—was premeditated. Court records revealed that the victim was assaulted while working on his farm, with Danboyi restraining him as Lang struck the fatal blow.

Despite appeals for leniency, the court upheld the mandatory capital punishment under the 1963 Penal Code and imposed an additional three-year sentence for conspiracy.

The ruling has reignited concerns over land-related violence in Plateau State, with human rights groups calling for more efforts to address underlying conflicts and support the victim’s family.
