Kaduna Approves N985.9bn 2026 Budget, Education Gets Largest Slice

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Monday signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦985.9 billion into law, with education receiving the largest allocation of 25 per cent. The signing took place at the Council Chambers of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.

Describing the budget, christened “Budget of Consolidation of Transformation for Inclusive Development,” as a blueprint for sustainable growth, Sani said it prioritises capital investment to accelerate development across the state. A total of ₦698.9 billion, or 70.9 per cent of the budget, is earmarked for capital expenditure, while ₦287 billion, or 29.1 per cent, is allocated for recurrent expenditure to maintain essential government services.

The governor highlighted that infrastructure development and rural transformation also received 25 per cent of the budget, reflecting a commitment to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities in rural areas. Health received 15 per cent, while agriculture and food security were allocated 11.65 per cent to support farmers and boost local production.

Sani also revealed that ₦100 million will be allocated to each ward in the state for community-driven projects, empowering residents to determine development priorities at the grassroots level.

On fiscal responsibility, the governor assured that the 2026 budget would not involve new borrowing, noting that the administration had already paid ₦114.9 billion in debt servicing.

“The 2026 budget is more than figures and projections; it is a promise of progress, opportunity, and improved quality of life for residents,” Sani said, pledging effective collaboration with the Kaduna State House of Assembly to ensure successful implementation.

The budget reflects the government’s focus on education, infrastructure, health, agriculture, and community empowerment as key pillars for sustainable development in Kaduna State.
