Kano Firefighters Rescue Woman Trapped In Deep Well

A 23-year-old woman was rescued alive after falling into a well in Gurungawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement released on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.

According to Abdullahi, the Emergency Response Unit received a distress call at about 12:25 a.m. from a resident, Lawan Aminu, reporting the accident.

A rescue team from the agency’s headquarters was immediately deployed to the scene.

On arrival, the team found the woman, identified as Ladidi Muhammad Sani, and safely rescued her.

She was later handed over to her father, Abdullahi Sani.

“We are grateful that our team acted quickly and was able to rescue the young woman alive. This highlights the importance of vigilance around open wells and other hazardous areas,” Abdullahi stated.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

The recent rescue follows other fatal accidents involving wells and open water bodies in Kano.

Multiple reports on Monday disclosed how a 30-year-old man died after entering a well to retrieve a burning gas cylinder in Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state.

In a similar incident on Friday, 6 February 2026, the agency reported that two children died in separate drowning incidents in Kano.

According to Abdullahi, 18-year-old Yusif Malam-Gwani drowned in an open water body at Bachirawa, Kwanar Madugu, in Ungogo Local Government Area.

In a related incident, an eight-year-old boy, Abdussalam Ibrahim, reportedly fell into a well at Kofar Yamma, Karaye town, in Karaye Local Government Area.

The Fire Service used the occasion to caution members of the public about the dangers of open wells and other hazardous areas, urging everyone to observe necessary safety precautions to prevent similar accidents.
