Kano Gov Suspends Acting Head of Service Over Alleged Salary Fraud

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has suspended the Acting Head of Service, Salisu Mustapha, over alleged involvement in salary fraud and non-payment of civil servants’ salaries.

The suspension was announced on Thursday in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who revealed that Mustapha was also directed to step aside as Permanent Secretary, Establishment under the Office of the Head of Service to allow for a thorough investigation.

To maintain administrative functions, Governor Yusuf approved the appointment of Malam Umar Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary of REPA, as the new Acting Head of Service pending the outcome of the probe.

The governor reiterated his zero-tolerance policy for financial malpractice, warning that anyone found guilty would face stiff penalties.

A committee led by Abdulkadir Abdussalam has been given seven days to investigate the irregularities and submit its report.

Mustapha had only recently assumed office following the medical leave granted to the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, who is currently receiving treatment in India.
