Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has been handed a four-game suspension by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) following his controversial remarks after the goalless Istanbul derby against Galatasaray on Monday.
The TFF, in a statement on Thursday, also imposed a total fine of 1,617,000 Turkish Lira (TL) on the Portuguese coach for two separate disciplinary breaches.
Mourinho, 62, sparked outrage after the heated clash at RAMS Park, where he criticized the match officials and allegedly made racist comments towards the Galatasaray bench, accusing them of “jumping like monkeys” during the game.
His remarks drew sharp reactions from Galatasaray, who threatened to file criminal charges against the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss for what they termed “racist statements”.
However, Fenerbahce defended their manager, claiming the comments were “taken out of context” to tarnish his image.
The TFF confirmed Mourinho’s punishment for making “insulting and offensive statements” towards Turkish referees and football in general, describing his comments as harmful to the spirit of fair play.

As part of the sanctions, Mourinho received a two-match ban from entering the dressing room and technical area, along with a fine of 117,000 TL. An additional two-match suspension was issued for “unsportsmanlike conduct” during his post-match press conference, with a fine of 1,500,000 TL attached.
Reports indicate that Fenerbahce intends to appeal the decision, while the club itself has also been sanctioned, with two away games set to be played without supporters due to fan misconduct.
The fiery coach, known for his outspoken nature, now faces an uphill battle as Fenerbahce continue their push for the Turkish Super Lig title.
