The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has refuted claims of a rift between him and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, saying their relationship remains cordial and built on mutual respect.
He made this clarification after the governor publicly called for his redeployment, accusing him of refusing to participate in the state’s 65th Independence Anniversary Parade.
Governor Yusuf had alleged that the Commissioner was undermining his administration and demanded his immediate transfer. The Police authorities, however, ignored the call, leaving Bakori to continue supervising security operations in the state.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the 13th of October, 2025, Dr Bakori said, “we don’t have any misunderstanding or problems with the Government and Governor of Kano State as we have a very cordial relationship.”
He explained that the Command has been executing the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who ordered all formations to intensify patrols and clamp down on criminal activities across the country.
Bakori announced the arrest of nine suspects linked to a series of armed robbery operations in Kano.
He said the arrests were made following a robbery incident on the 8th of October, 2025, around 2 a.m., at a residence in Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters.
“The robbers, armed with rifles, made away with a Toyota Yaris motor vehicle, foreign and local currencies amounting to N3,700,000, three mobile phones, and other valuables. In the process, they also brutally assaulted the complainant’s wife, removing one of her teeth with a diamond, causing her grievous hurt.”
According to the Commissioner, officers from the Dorayi Divisional Headquarters responded immediately and apprehended one suspect. Following his instruction, the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) launched a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of eight additional suspects in different areas of Kano and Kaduna States.
The arrested suspects are: Abubakar Aminu (22), Aliyu Aliyu (23), Abubakar Usman (22), Sulaiman Sani (20), Yusuf Yusuf (17), Abdulrahman Aliyu (23), Salisu Hussaini (17), Sulaiman Abdullahi (20), and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad (24).
“The suspects confessed to being involved in several armed robbery operations in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano State, including the recent armed robbery at Unguwar Jakada, Dorayi Quarters, Kano State.”
Items recovered from them include one double-barrel gun with breach number 273720 and eighteen live cartridges, one English Falcon pistol with breach number RFJA 170521867, one scrapped Phoenix pistol, one iron cutter, two cutlasses, four sharp knives, three torch lights, and a Toyota Corolla LE with registration number ADK 787.

Bakori said the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are completed, adding that efforts are underway to recover more stolen items.
He noted that the Command’s community policing strategy, known as Operation Kukan Kura, has been instrumental in reducing crime rates across Kano.
“Our community-based crime fighting model, ‘Operation Kukan Kura,’ has contributed significantly to the reduction of crime in the State. We have seen a geometric reduction in all forms of crimes. Mobile phone snatching and robbery becoming a thing of the past. Thuggery activities (Fadan Daba) being crippled.”
Bakori commended the officers for their courage and professionalism during the operation.
“I commend the officers involved in this operation for their bravery and professionalism. Their dedication to duty has resulted in this significant breakthrough, and I urge all officers to continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the people of Kano State.”
