Crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worsened on Monday, October 13, after Honourable Sadiq Abdullahi, a member of the House of Representatives, announced his resignation from the party.
Abdullahi, who represents Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State and serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the PDP’s deepening internal conflicts and “loss of direction” had made it difficult for him to serve his people effectively.
His exit came only hours after former National Secretary S.K.E. Udeh Okoye also left the party, further exposing the cracks within the opposition’s leadership.
In his resignation letter addressed to his ward chairman and made public on Monday, Abdullahi expressed frustration over what he described as prolonged factionalism that had crippled the party’s unity and focus.

“The persistent internal conflicts and factionalisation within the PDP, which have culminated in a prolonged party crisis, are adversely affecting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and perform my duties optimally,” he stated.
Abdullahi explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and political allies, stressing that it was aimed at ensuring “purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation” for the people of Sabon Gari beyond partisan lines.
He also expressed gratitude to the PDP for giving him the platform to serve, saying, “I wish to sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform. The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party have been invaluable.”
His resignation, coupled with Okoye’s, adds to the growing unease within the PDP as it struggles to navigate internal leadership disputes and redefine its strategy ahead of the next general elections.
